Faisal Chaudhry, the attorney for Imran Khan, the jailed founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was involved in a heated exchange with the administration of Adiala Jail after being denied entry on Thursday.
A video circulating on social media captures Chaudhry vocally berating Assistant Superintendent Imran Riaz during his visit to meet Khan, who is currently detained in the facility.
Chaudhry is heard in the video demanding, “Why was I stopped…who dare not clear me?” while the assistant superintendent attempts to explain.
Following the incident, Chaudhry filed a formal complaint against the jail staff at Adiala Jail Chowki. In his complaint, he stated that he holds a power of attorney for all of Imran Khan’s cases and claimed that the jail personnel unjustly barred him at the entrance, preventing him from entering.
He also highlighted that he was scheduled to attend a hearing at an anti-terrorism court concerning a case linked to an attack on General Headquarters (GHQ). Chaudhry expressed frustration over being made to wait in the deputy superintendent’s office for two hours as a form of protest. Moreover, he accused the jail staff of harassment toward himself and other petitioners and called for the police to take legal action against the jail administration.
Imran Khan, 72, a former cricketer who became a politician, has been in prison since August of last year due to his conviction in the Toshakhana case since being ousted from office in April 2022.
