The Los Angeles Lakers are actively seeking to enhance their lineup for the upcoming NBA season, and they are targeting Kevin Durant, one of the league’s premier talents.
Durant, currently with the Phoenix Suns, is reportedly unsettled following a disappointing season where the Suns finished sixth in the Western Conference and were eliminated in the first playoff round.
Among the NBA’s highest-paid players, Durant has two years remaining on his contract, worth $51.1 million next season and $54.7 million the following year. He is at the centre of potential trade discussions. However, a major hurdle is the Suns’ demand for Anthony Davis in return, a stipulation the Lakers are not prepared to fulfil.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that the Suns would only consider sending Durant to the Lakers if they included Davis, a proposal Los Angeles has rejected.
The Lakers’ ideal scenario involves creating a powerhouse trio of Anthony Davis, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant. Yet, the insistence on keeping Davis means that achieving this “Big Three” is currently unfeasible.
To circumvent this impasse, the Lakers are purportedly exploring other trade packages that do not involve Davis.
Heavy.com says a possible offer could include D’Angelo Russell, Max Christie, Taurean Prince, Rui Hachimura, and two future first-round draft picks. Despite these efforts, whether such a proposal would meet the Suns’ expectations or lead to a successful negotiation for Durant’s transfer remains uncertain.
