Medical procedures at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital were severely disrupted due to an unexpected power outage.
The incident occurred amidst surgeries, forcing doctors to use torchlights and other makeshift methods to complete their operations. Distressingly, a video showcasing surgeons operating in minimal light circulated rapidly on social media platforms.
In response, health higher-ups intervened, demanding an immediate report from the vice chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University. Additionally, a senior officer delegation was dispatched to the hospital for an in-depth investigation, with instructions to determine culpability swiftly.
Lahore’s public hospitals seem to be facing recurrent power mismanagement issues. Services Hospital experienced a similar electricity suspension while surgeries began in late July.
After an inquiry into the power disruption at Services Hospital, Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi sanctioned the suspension of the principal of the Services Institute of Medical Sciences and the Services Hospital’s medical superintendent.
In contrast, the medical superintendent of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital faced no such punitive measures. This selective approach to accountability has stirred discussions and concerns within the medical sector.
