The Lahore High Court ordered the release of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the former Chief Minister of Punjab and a prominent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi found himself in a legal whirlwind, being produced before the court due to allegations centred around an “Assets Beyond Means” case.
The backdrop of the issue traces back to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arresting Elahi. His supposed failure to furnish relevant information to the NAB regarding his assets prompted this action. Moreover, the case wasn’t just limited to him but also involved his son, Monis Elahi, and extended family members.
Recent revelations from NAB insiders indicate that Monis Elahi isn’t immune to scrutiny. An inquiry focusing on his disproportionate assets is also currently underway.
Court Proceedings and Transit
Justice Amjad Rafiq, overseeing the hearing at Lahore High Court, was the one who commanded the release of the ex-Chief Minister. Before the court’s intervention, a team from the Lahore chapter of NAB had transported Elahi from Adiala Jail to the session court in Rawalpindi to secure a transit remand.
