Tragedy struck late Saturday night when former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy, 24, died by apparent suicide during a police pursuit in Harris County, Texas.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported that the chase ended when Lacy crashed his vehicle. Upon approaching the car, officers discovered him deceased inside. This sudden loss has left both authorities and fans in disbelief.

Kyren Lacy’s death comes after a turbulent year filled with legal troubles. Last December, he was involved in a fatal car accident in Louisiana. According to the Louisiana State Police, Lacy was speeding and illegally passing another vehicle, which forced the other driver to swerve. This resulted in a head-on collision that killed 78-year-old Herman Hall. Lacy fled the scene and subsequently faced charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless driving.

New details emerge in the death of Kyren Lacy, who was reported to have been involved in an argument that led to a police chase and a car crash. Authorities later found him dead in the vehicle from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound pic.twitter.com/YyiHlAhUG3

Once a standout athlete, Lacy had a bright future ahead. He declared for the 2025 NFL Draft just days after the accident, but his legal troubles quickly overshadowed his talent. Last season, he led LSU with nine touchdown receptions, recording 58 catches for 866 yards. However, he did not play in LSU’s Texas Bowl victory over Baylor on December 31.

LSU expressed their grief formally: “We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU football student-athlete Kyren Lacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing.”
