Swedish authorities have terminated their investigation into allegations of rape and sexual assault reportedly involving Kylian Mbappé. The prosecutor’s office in Stockholm confirmed the closure of the case, citing insufficient evidence to proceed.

Kylian Mbappé, 25, a French footballer, was allegedly linked to an incident reported at a luxurious Stockholm hotel on October 10. However, the Swedish prosecution authority never officially disclosed his name concerning the case. Despite extensive media speculation, notably by Aftonbladet and Expressen, the prosecutor, Marina Chirakova, emphasized that the evidence available was inadequate to support further legal action.

Chirakova stated, “After reviewing the evidence collected, including numerous interviews, we’ve decided to close the investigation. There was insufficient proof to continue, and no new evidence or interviews could alter this stance.”

Mbappé’s Response to the Rape Allegations

Reacting to the allegations, Mbappé expressed shock over his association with the investigation and confirmed his non-involvement in any criminal activities related to the case. On the French television show Clique, he clarified that he had not received any legal notices or summons.

The allegations surfaced during Mbappé’s visit to Stockholm from October 9-11, following his omission from the French national team for a Nations League match. According to reports, the alleged victim sought medical attention on October 12 and subsequently complained. Although police seized some clothing, they found no conclusive evidence.

Since transferring to Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, Mbappé has faced challenges adapting to his new team. However, he recently scored in a crucial 3-2 Champions League victory over Atalanta. His career achievements include winning the 2018 World Cup and performing in the 2022 final against Argentina.

The closure of this case marks a significant moment for Mbappé, allowing him to focus on his career amidst a challenging season. The situation underscores the complexities of high-profile legal cases involving celebrities and the rigorous standards required for prosecutorial evidence.
