On May 27, 2025, Kuwait officially resumed issuing visas to Pakistani citizens, ending a 19-year restriction imposed in 2011.
According to Gulf News, the decision allows Pakistanis to apply for work, family, visit, tourist, and commercial visas, unlocking significant opportunities in the Gulf state.
The lifted ban enables thousands of Pakistanis to pursue employment, business, and tourism in Kuwait. Notably, Kuwait plans to hire approximately 1,200 nurses from Pakistan for its healthcare sector, with the first group expected to depart soon. The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis praised the move, stating it will streamline visa access through an online platform, reducing processing times.
“This is a game-changer for Pakistan’s workforce,” said a ministry spokesperson. “Increased employment in Kuwait will boost our economy through foreign remittances.” The decision follows years of negotiations between Kuwait and Pakistan to address security concerns that led to the 2011 freeze, which also affected Iran, Syria, and Afghanistan.
The visa resumption is poised to strengthen Pakistan-Kuwait ties. Kuwait’s demand for skilled workers, particularly in healthcare, will benefit Pakistani professionals. The online visa system will enhance accessibility, encouraging trade and tourism.

Economist Dr. Sara Malik from the University of Karachi notes, “Kuwait’s decision could significantly increase Pakistan’s remittance inflows, supporting economic stability. The focus on healthcare jobs aligns with global labour trends.” She emphasises the need for efficient visa processing to maximise benefits.
Pakistani citizens can now apply for Kuwaiti visas online, with details available through official channels.
