On July 7, 2025, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur launched the Ehsaas Apna Ghar scheme, offering interest-free loans of up to ₨1.5 million to low-income families for home construction.

During a ceremony at the Chief Minister’s House, Gandapur personally distributed cheques to successful applicants selected through a computerised ballot, ensuring transparency in the process. The government has allocated Rs 4 billion to the scheme, which targets individuals aged 18 to 65 with monthly incomes of less than Rs 150,000 per month. The program offers loans that recipients can repay in instalments. Provincial ministers Meena Khan Afridi and Muzzammil Aslam attended the event and emphasised that “Ehsaas Apna Ghar transforms lives!”

Eligible applicants, verified through a transparent digital process, can access up to ₨1.5 million to build homes, directly addressing the housing needs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 40 million residents. Modelled on the federal Ehsaas programs, this scheme aims to support 10,000 families each year. Applicants must submit property ownership documents along with their CNIC, and designated banks will process claims to ensure easy accessibility.

The launch comes in response to KP’s protests against the federal government’s decision to remove two hydropower projects, 88 MW Gabral Kalam and 157 MW Madyan, from the IGCAP. Special Assistant Tariq Sadozai criticised this decision, labelling it as “victimisation,” and highlighted the involvement of World Bank funding and NEPRA approval. Despite these tensions, the housing scheme underscores KP’s commitment to public welfare, as 30% of its residents live below the poverty line.
