The Election Commission has decided to appoint Returning Officers (ROs) from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bureaucracy for local bodies elections in the province.
The role of ROs appointed by the judiciary for last year’s general elections had been questioned by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and almost all political parties blamed the officers for the mess in the 2013 polls.
ECP has now decided to select the ROs from provincial and federal government, rather than the judiciary. A similar decision has been taken for next general elections in Pakistan.
Local bodies’ elections are likely to be held in KPK in March 2015.
