Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi petitioned Supreme Court Chief Justice Yahya Afridi for permission to meet PTI founder Imran Khan in Adiala jail.
Afridi, elected CM this week replacing Ali Amin Gandapur, cited constitutional and moral duties to consult Khan, PTI’s patron-in-chief, on cabinet formation, law and order, economic issues, and inter-provincial relations.
The chief minister emphasised that his meeting with the PTI founder is essential to discuss law and order, economic challenges, and provincial policy matters.
“There is a pressing need to seek direction from the party’s Founder Chairman and Patron-in-Chief, Mr. Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi, regarding these matters and other issues including relations with the Federation and other provinces,” the letter read.
Afridi further noted that inter-provincial tensions were rising, citing Punjab’s recent decision to halt wheat trade with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Afridi approached the federal interior secretary and the Punjab home secretary multiple times without success. His letter highlighted the wheat trade halt by Punjab and needs direction on the federation-province ties. “Seeking guidance is essential,” he wrote.

From Bara tehsil, Khyber district, Afridi served as higher education minister before becoming CM. A grassroots PTI worker since student days, he vowed “confrontational politics” in his maiden assembly speech. He warned of nationwide protests if Khan is moved without consultation.
