Rapper Scott Mescudi, known as Kid Cudi, delivered compelling testimony in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal sex-trafficking and racketeering trial in Manhattan, alleging that Combs orchestrated a 2012 arson attack on his Porsche 911 convertible.
Cudi linked the incident to his brief romantic relationship with Combs’ ex-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, in 2011, describing Combs’ demeanour during a confrontation as “like a Marvel supervillain.”
Cudi’s Testimony: Arson and Break-In Allegations
Cudi testified that in January 2012, his dog sitter alerted him to a fire in his Hollywood Hills driveway, where he found his Porsche ablaze, damaged by a Molotov cocktail inserted through a cut in the convertible roof. He believed Combs was responsible, though Judge Arun Subramanian struck a direct claim of Combs’ involvement from the record, limiting Cudi to discussing his state of mind. Prosecutors presented photos showing burn marks and a charred driver’s seat, supporting the arson claim, though no arrests were made.

The arson followed a December 2011 break-in at Cudi’s Los Angeles home, which he alleged Combs arranged after learning of his relationship with Ventura. Cudi found unwrapped Christmas gifts and his dog locked in the bathroom, appearing distressed. He received a call from Ventura, sounding “scared,” warning that Combs had obtained his address. A call from Combs’ assistant, Capricorn Clark, confirmed Combs and an associate were at Cudi’s home, though security cameras were disabled.
Cudi recounted a tense meeting with Combs at Soho House in early 2012, where Combs stood “with his hands behind his back like a Marvel supervillain.” They discussed the Ventura relationship, and Cudi asked about his car, to which Combs replied, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Cudi later testified he believed Combs was “lying.”
In 2015, Combs apologized at another Soho House encounter, saying, “I’m sorry for all that bullshit,” which Cudi accepted, finding “peace.”
Context of Combs’ Trial
Combs, 55, faces charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution, accused of running a criminal enterprise involving violence, coercion, and “freak-off” sex parties. He has pleaded not guilty, with his defence arguing that all encounters were consensual. Ventura, a key witness, testified about Combs’ alleged abuse and claimed he threatened to blow up Cudi’s car during Paris Fashion Week 2012, shortly before the arson. Her 2023 lawsuit, settled for $20 million, corroborated the car explosion claim, supported by a Cudi spokesperson’s statement to The New York Times: “This is all true.”

Cudi’s testimony aims to bolster the prosecution’s racketeering charge, showing a pattern of violent behaviour by Combs. However, defence attorney Brian Steel emphasised that no direct evidence ties Combs to the arson. Steel also suggested Ventura misled both men about her relationship status, to which Cudi agreed, saying she “played” them.
The testimony highlighted Cudi’s allegations of the break-in and arson, with some users expressing shock at Combs’ alleged actions. Others criticised Ventura’s credibility, reflecting polarised sentiment. The trial, ongoing since May 12, 2025, continues to unfold, with witnesses like Ventura’s makeup artist, Mylah Morales, testifying about Combs’ alleged violence.
