The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced plans to install free solar systems in over a thousand religious seminaries across the province, including the merged tribal districts.
KP initiative aims to support religious education and attract more students to these institutions. The decision aligns with the directives from the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It involves collaboration between the Department of Auqaf and Religious Affairs and the Energy Department to transition these seminaries to solar energy.
A key meeting took place under the leadership of Nisar Ahmad Khan, Secretary of Energy and Electricity, to discuss the solarization of registered seminaries as part of the Annual Development Program. Attendees included Adil Siddique, Secretary of Auqaf and Religious Affairs, Engineer Asfand Yar Khan Musa Zai, Project Director of Solarization, and Engineer Luqman Hakim, Senior Planning Officer.

During the meeting, Secretary Adil Siddique detailed that the project to equip registered seminaries with solar systems would soon commence, following consultations with the Director General of Religious Education of the Government of Pakistan and with support from the Energy and Electricity Department. Each seminary will receive a solar system tailored to its specific needs.
Secretary Nisar Ahmad Khan has directed the project director to collaborate closely with the Department of Auqaf to conduct necessary surveys and prepare the project’s PC-1 document to kickstart the implementation. He emphasized the importance of securing timely funding from the Department of Auqaf. He instructed the creation of comprehensive lists for the solarization of registered seminaries in each district, ensuring an organized and efficient initiative rollout.
