A recent meeting of the Sunni Ittehad Council’s parliamentary party, led by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, addressed multiple concerns regarding ministerial performance.
During the meeting, MPs voiced numerous complaints about ministers’ frequent absences from their offices.
In response to these complaints and following discussions with Imran Khan, Chief Minister Gandapur hinted at a potential reshuffle of ministers based on their performance assessments. He indicated that he would discuss these performance issues with Imran Khan and that changes to the cabinet could be expected thereafter.
Chief Minister Gandapur also expressed his readiness to implement a Plan B if the Chief Secretary and Inspector General are not replaced within the next 10 days, asserting his control over key decisions with the backing of all MPs. Additionally, he took the opportunity to discuss budget matters with the MPs to ensure they were well-informed.
In a separate development last week in Peshawar, the provincial cabinet approved a significant increase in house rent allowances for ministers, advisors, and special assistants not originally from Peshawar and residing in rented accommodations. This allowance was increased from the previous Rs 70,000 to Rs 200,000 and will now also cover utility bills, a change justified by rising rental costs, according to Information Advisor Barrister Dr. Saif.
