On August 22, 2025, a three-member inquiry committee submitted a 30-page report to Sindh Inspector-General Ghulam Nabi Memon, concluding that the death of journalist Khawar Hussain in Sanghar was a suicide. Hussain, associated with a private news channel, was found dead in his car on Hyderabad Road last week under mysterious circumstances.
Led by Additional Inspector General Azad Khan, with DIG Irfan Baloch and SSP Abid Baloch, the committee based its conclusion on:
- A detailed crime scene visit and witness interviews.
- Analysis of post-mortem and forensic reports, including an eight-page medical section.
- CCTV footage tracing Hussain’s route from Karachi to Sanghar and at the restaurant parking lot.
DIG Baloch confirmed no one approached Hussain’s vehicle during the incident, per CCTV evidence. The post-mortem revealed the bullet in his head came from his licensed pistol, and call data records and witness statements supported the suicide ruling. However, the committee noted that determining underlying reasons requires family cooperation.

Hussain, a Karachi-based journalist for nearly a decade, was seen entering and leaving a restaurant twice before staying in his vehicle for two hours. Police recovered one of his two mobile phones; the other remains missing. Before his death, Hussain arranged a water delivery payment, indicating no immediate distress, investigators said.
The case has drawn attention due to its initial mystery, with Hussain’s death raising concerns about journalist safety in Pakistan. The committee’s findings aim to clarify the circumstances, but the missing phone and family input leave questions open. The report’s submission to the Sindh IG underscores ongoing efforts to address high-profile cases transparently.
