The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially unveiled the match schedule for the Kenyan cricket team’s upcoming tour of Pakistan, which will take place next month.
This announcement marks a significant development in international cricket relations for Pakistan.
According to the PCB, the Kenyan team will touch down in Pakistan on December 11, ready to compete in five one-day international (ODI) matches. All these matches are scheduled to be held at Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore, with the games set for December 13, 15, 16, 18, and 20.
The visit of the Kenyan cricket team is considerable importance as it represents a potential milestone in the reestablishment of regular international cricket in Pakistan. This revival effort comes in the wake of the March 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, which significantly impacted Pakistan’s ability to host international cricket events.
Hosting teams such as Kenya, which are considered second-tier in the international cricket hierarchy, is seen as a crucial step towards bringing back regular international fixtures to Pakistani soil. These tours not only help in reassessing the nation’s security perception but also contribute significantly to the revitalization of domestic cricket, which has suffered due to fears surrounding security issues.
