Despite being born into the media-dominating Kardashian clan, Kendall Jenner has often presented herself as someone who swims against the current or navigates life on her terms. In a candid interview with The Wall Street Journal magazine, the 27-year-old influencer and model has opened up about her unique experiences within the spotlight-shrouded Kardashian-Jenner family.
Jenner dispels any notion of a strained relationship with her family. However, she candidly admits that from an early age, she felt somewhat different, somewhat out of sync with the Kardashian dynamics. She says, “Since I was really young, I felt out of place in my family. I’m not built for this by any means. I’m not good at it. I do it, and I’ve learned how to do it.”
Kendall and Kim: Contrasting Paths to Fame
Jenner has often found herself compared to her older and globally recognized sister, Kim Kardashian. She recalls how Kim intentionally visited places like Kitson on Robertson Boulevard to be photographed, leading Jenner to believe Kim was designed for this life. In contrast, Kendall has struggled to adapt to the constant public scrutiny. “It took me almost 20 years to think, ‘OK, I guess I’m just getting used to it now, and this is fine, I get it.”

Embracing her Jenner Roots
Kendall and Kylie Jenner share a different father from the rest of their siblings, having been born to Caitlyn Jenner. In contrast, the older Kardashian siblings are the children of Robert Kardashian. Kendall notes the significance of this distinction, acknowledging that she identifies more with her father’s side. “I understand that I live under the Kardashian umbrella, but it’s weird because I’m like my dad in many ways. I’m a Jenner, in my opinion.”
While acknowledging her privileged life, Kendall also speaks about her challenges. The spotlight’s pressure and the anxiety it has caused her have been significant hurdles. But Kendall has found coping methods, including therapy, journaling, regular exercise, participating in sound baths, and spending quality time with friends and family. Through these mechanisms, she’s managed the stressors that come with fame, carving out a path that allows her to maintain her well-being amidst the intensity of her public life.
