Karan Johar, an Indian film director, expressed disappointment over a comedian’s imitation of him on a television show, which he deemed in “exceptionally poor taste.”
Johar shared his feelings on Instagram, recounting how the incident unfolded while watching TV with his mother. He noted his dismay at seeing a comic mimic him during a promo for a comedy show on a respected channel, stating, “I expect this from trolls and faceless and nameless people, but when your own industry can disrespect someone who has been in the business for over 25 years it speaks volumes about the times we live in…this doesn’t even anger me it just makes me sad!”
Ektaa Kapoor, a close friend and film producer, echoed Johar’s sentiment on her Instagram Stories. She criticized the often harsh nature of humour in shows and award functions and questioned the expectation for those mocked to participate in these events. Johar, responding to Kapoor’s support, expressed his gratitude.
Although Johar did not specifically name anyone, social media users speculated he was referring to Kettan Singh, known for his appearances on Sony TV’s “Madness Machayenge.” In a promotional clip, Singh appeared to parody Johar’s talk show, humorously renaming it “Toffee with Churan.”
