Final-year Pharmacy students at the University of Karachi have developed the world’s most compact rechargeable nebulizer. This device offers mobile respiratory treatment for patients with breathing difficulties and is less than an inch wide, operating for up to 35 minutes on a single charge that sustains two days.
The bioplastic-made, eco-friendly nebulizer is suited for office use or while travelling. It features both micro-USB and USB-C ports, allowing easy recharging. The device operates quietly, providing discreet, portable respiratory support.
Abdul Rahman, the group leader, highlighted that unlike the traditional bulky and noisy nebulizers priced between Rs 8,000 and Rs 10,000, their device is available for under Rs 2,000. The team’s goal is to make respiratory therapy more accessible and affordable, benefiting particularly children and the elderly who suffer from asthma or chest infections.
The innovation was spearheaded by Abdul Rahman Siddiqui, Taha Ishaq, Syed Waliuddin, Syeda Arshiya, Zohaib Salman, Maham Zaidi, Priyan Khan, and Tuba Saleem, who are dedicated to addressing significant healthcare needs in Pakistan.
