On August 10, 2025, a mob in Karachi’s Federal B Area set fire to seven dumper trucks following a tragic incident in which a truck fatally struck siblings Mahnoor, 22, and Ahmed Raza, 14 years old.
The accident occurred late Saturday night on Rashid Minhas Road and involved a motorcycle carrying the siblings and their father, who all sustained injuries. Unfortunately, the siblings later succumbed to their wounds, igniting outrage among local residents.
SP Gulberg and Iqbal Shaikh told reporters that a truck ran over a motorcycle, injuring a family. Locals assaulted the driver before authorities took him into custody, during which he also sustained injuries. In retaliation, a mob set seven trucks on fire. Authorities are now clearing the charred vehicles from the scene. Traffic police have diverted vehicles from Rashid Minhas Road via the Sohrab Goth flyover to Shahrah-e-Pakistan Water Pump, causing significant disruptions
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori expressed deep sorrow and offered prayers for the father’s recovery, according to a statement from the Governor’s House. He urged residents to refrain from taking vigilante action and instructed the Sindh government to hold the responsible driver accountable while taking measures to combat the “dumper mafia.” Tessori emphasised, “The Sindh government must take action against the dumper mafia that jeopardises people’s lives.”
The incident highlights safety concerns over heavy vehicles in Karachi and the public’s frustration with unchecked “dumper mafia” operations. The mob’s reaction underscores the need for stricter traffic regulations and enforcement to prevent such tragedies and maintain public order.
