Karachi police have announced a citywide crackdown on vehicles using fancy, fake, or illegal number plates, as authorities step up efforts to prevent motorists from evading traffic penalties.
Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, said the operation will begin on Friday, November 19, 2025. The campaign will target vehicles displaying concealed, altered, or counterfeit registration numbers.
He announced during a press conference at the Karachi Police Office, alongside Chief Citizens Police Liaison Committee Zubair Habib, Deputy Inspector General Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, and Director Excise Motor Registration Shabana Baloch.

Odho said the introduction of the Traffic Reporting and Compliance System has significantly improved traffic management in the city and received positive public feedback. However, official monitoring revealed that some motorists have adopted new tactics to avoid e-challans.
“These methods include fake number plates, hidden plates, and tampered registration numbers,” he said, adding that such practices undermine enforcement efforts and public safety.

The Additional Inspector General said the crackdown will be carried out jointly by district police, officials from the excise department, and members of the Citizens Police Liaison Committee. Authorities will verify vehicle details through excise records before taking action.

Vehicles and motorcycles found in violation will be seized, and legal cases will be registered against the offenders. Odho advised motorists who have applied for legal number plates to carry valid receipts as proof.
Police will temporarily impound vehicles operating without legal number plates. Authorities will also take strict action against the unlawful use of green number plates, which are reserved for specific categories under the law.
