A shocking incident of family violence emerged from Karachi’s Malir district when a young nurse’s aspiration to marry a colleague was met with severe opposition from her family, leading them to shave part of her head as a punitive measure. The episode unfolded near Quaidabad, prompting police intervention.
Authorities have arrested five individuals, including the nurse’s father, mother, and grandmother, following the registration of a case against the family members involved. SHO Firasat Hussain from Quaidabad Police Station informed about the developments, citing the 22-year-old paramedic’s formal complaint.
The nurse’s desire to marry a fellow hospital worker sparked the familial conflict. Her father and other relatives, including a paternal uncle, responded with physical assault, partially shaving her head to limit her public appearances.
Investigations revealed that the victim’s parents had separated seven months prior, leading her and her sisters to relocate to their mother’s residence. During this period, the nurse’s father made repeated attempts to persuade them to return to his home, coinciding with her marriage proposal.
On December 12, the nurse reported another violent encounter with her father and her sisters. They sought temporary refuge at a friend’s home in Green Town. She recounted that on December 20, her father, alongside other relatives, visited this location, assaulted her, tore her clothing, and shaved her head.
In response to her complaint, police detained her father, mother, grandmother, uncle, and neighbour. Police continue their investigation to gather further details about the incident.
