After a five-year protracted legal battle, Bollywood personalities Kangana Ranaut and Javed Akhtar have amicably settled their disputes out of court.
The settlement includes withdrawing the lawsuits they had filed against each other, marking a peaceful conclusion to the high-profile case.
Kangana Ranaut, now an actor turned Member of Parliament, took to her Instagram to announce the settlement. She expressed gratitude towards Javed Akhtar for his graciousness during the mediation process, during which he also agreed to collaborate on her next directorial project by writing songs. “Javed Ji has been very kind and gracious… he also agreed to write songs for my next directorial,” Ranaut shared in her post.
The legal tussle began when Javed Akhtar, a renowned lyricist and screenwriter, filed a defamation lawsuit against Ranaut in 2020. The complaint stemmed from Ranaut’s comments in an interview following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In the interview, she alleged that Akhtar had intimidated her in connection with her previous conflicts with actor Hrithik Roshan and his family.
Ranaut recounted an encounter where Akhtar allegedly warned her of severe consequences if she did not apologize to the Roshan family. In response to these allegations, Akhtar asserted in court that Ranaut’s claims were entirely false and that the purpose of the meeting had been communicated beforehand.
Ranaut also accused Akhtar of extortion and infringing on her privacy, adding further intensity to their legal battle. These accusations have now been retracted as part of their settlement.
