Justice Shahid Jamil Khan resigned from the Lahore High Court (LHC) for personal reasons. He had submitted his resignation to President Arif Alvi and was a potential future Chief Justice, with retirement due in 2029.
In his resignation, Khan expressed his honour in serving for a decade and mentioned his decision to start anew, quoting, “An ounce of discretion is worth a pound of wit.”
Supreme Court Justices’ Exits
Last month saw the resignation of two Supreme Court justices, Ijaz Ul Ahsan and Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi. Ahsan, the third senior judge, resigned without stating reasons shortly after Justice Naqvi left his post. Naqvi’s departure followed the Supreme Judicial Council’s (SJC) refusal to halt proceedings against him for alleged bench manipulation and financial misconduct.
These departures, occurring under the shadow of former CJP Umar Ata Bandial’s tenure, led to speculation about judicial integrity and cohesion within Pakistan’s highest court.
