Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court emphatically demanded the involvement of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in the recovery of journalist Ahmad Farhad.
In a hearing that underscores the gravity of the situation, Justice Kayani instructed a representative from the Ministry of Defense to communicate directly with the Director-General of ISI, stating, “I need a person from ISI to inform your DG ISI. The person must be recovered at all costs.”
During the proceedings concerning the disappearance of Farhad, Justice Kayani expressed his urgency and concern by setting a strict deadline. He declared that a response from the Secretary of Defense was required by 3:00 PM. “If no response is received, I will pass an order,” he warned, highlighting the critical nature of the case.
In a pointed remark to the Ministry of Defense’s representative, Justice Kayani stressed the need for clear action, saying, “Tell your DG that I absolutely need the person; remove the label of kidnappers from your own.” His comments reflect the pressing need to address allegations of wrongful abduction and to ensure accountability.
Justice Kayani also warned sternly about the case’s potential broader implications, stating, “Fear the time when we all might be abducted.” He clarified that poet Ahmad Farhad must be presented by the afternoon deadline; otherwise, he would take action against the sector commander responsible for the area. This strong stance underscores the judiciary’s role in safeguarding civil liberties and ensuring governmental accountability.
