Banned militant organization Jundullah has claimed responsibility for the Wagah suicide attack, which claimed nearly 50 lives on Sunday evening.

According to sources, Jundullah claimed responsibility for the suicide attack, which claimed at least 47 lives, including two Rangers personnel and injured dozens of others.

The outlawed Jundullah and TTP-affiliated Jamaat-ul-Ahrar claimed responsibility for a Sunday blast near Wagah that killed at least 60 people. Over 110 people were hurt, including ten women and seven children.

Punjab police chief Inspector General Mushtaq Sukhera told AP the device exploded outside a restaurant near a paramilitary soldiers’ checkpoint at Wagah border on Lahore’s outskirts. He also suggested the explosion was a suicide.

Lahore police chief Amin Wains acknowledged it was a suicide attack. “People were returning from watching the Wagah border parade when the blast occurred. He said the scene had ball bearings.

All Lahore hospitals are in an emergency. Nawaz Sharif demanded a report on the explosion.

Only Wagah connects Amritsar, India, to Lahore, Pakistan.

After the Pakistani bombing, an Indian security official told Reuters the Wagah border is “safe.”
