Joe Russo, best known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, spent Christmas Eve revisiting a holiday classic and walked away with a fresh critique.
Russo revealed on X that he rewatched Home Alone 2 and, for the first time, noticed a puzzling gap in the story. While he has seen the film many times, this viewing raised a question he said had never struck him before.
“I watch Home Alone 2 every year, but this time it hit me,” Russo wrote. “Does Kevin’s family know he took down the Wet Bandits? It’s never referenced in the sequel.”
The comment quickly sparked discussion among fans of the franchise. Many agreed with Russo, arguing that Kevin McCallister’s heroic actions receive little recognition from his parents across both films.

One user suggested that Kevin’s family may have sensed something unusual but never fully understood what he accomplished. Another criticised the sequel’s writing, pointing out that the same actors returned as the villains with only a name change, calling it a missed opportunity to deepen the story.
The Home Alone franchise, which stars Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, remains a staple of holiday viewing. Russo’s observation has added a new layer to a decades-old debate, proving that even beloved Christmas films can still surprise viewers—no matter how many times they are watched.
