JD McDonagh was taken to the hospital after a risky springboard moonsault flip on Ivar from the War Raiders went wrong during WWE Raw, where he competed for the World Tag Championship alongside Dominik Mysterio.
The move resulted in McDonagh landing awkwardly, causing his head to snap back as he whiplashed into the announcers’ desk. The impact occurred when his neck made direct contact with the top of the signage fence, causing immediate distress.
Visible pain was evident in McDonagh as he continued the match despite the severity of his injury. Ivar, breaking character, quickly checked on McDonagh, showing genuine concern for his condition. Commentator Michael Cole urgently called for medical intervention, fearing the worst. “Somebody’s got to check on McDonagh. He’s lucky he doesn’t have a damn broken neck,” Cole expressed on-air.
Although McDonagh completed the match, attendees at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta observed him collapsing backstage. The match concluded with the War Raiders defeating Mysterio and McDonagh to retain the WWE World Tag Championship.
WWE later announced that McDonagh had sustained several broken ribs and a punctured lung due to the incident. McDonagh took to social media to reassure fans and thank them for their concern despite the grim diagnosis. “First off, thanks to everyone for the messages and concern. I’m good. I’ve got a couple of broken ribs and a punctured lung, so I’ll be out for a couple of months. All things considered, it could have been a lot worse, so I’m grateful for that. See ya in a bit,” he shared on X.
