Senior politician Javed Hashmi’s nephew and son-in-law was arrested for allegedly stealing a jug and glass.

In a recent Twitter statement, veteran politician Javed Hashmi disclosed that authorities arrested his nephew and son-in-law, Dr. Shahid Bahar Hashmi, under controversial circumstances. Dr. Shahid, who holds a Ph.D. from the National Defense University, is also a law graduate and a member of the Multan Bar Association. According to Hashmi, police apprehended Dr. Shahid on July 25 at 11 PM from his bedroom.

Javed Hashmi expressed outrage over how authorities treated Dr. Shahid, stating that officials presented him in court today in handcuffs. The allegation against Dr. Shahid is that he stole a jug and glass from a private school 50 kilometres away from his residence.

Hashmi further stated that authorities detained Dr. Shahid in Central Jail under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act, 16, which he views as a grave injustice. He emphasized Dr. Shahid’s distinguished academic and professional background, highlighting the absurdity of the charges against him.

The arrest has sparked a debate on social media, with many questioning the motives behind the detention and the legitimacy of the charges.

Javed Hashmi has called for a thorough investigation and the immediate release of his son-in-law, asserting that the accusations are baseless and politically motivated.
