Javed Akhtar Odho has been appointed as the new Sindh Inspector General of Police, following the relinquishment of charge by the outgoing provincial police chief, Ghulam Nabi Memon.
A Grade-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan, Javed Akhtar Odho, confirmed receipt of the official notification. He had already been serving as acting Sindh IG after Ghulam Nabi Memon stepped down. Odho formally assumes charge as Sindh’s top police officer on January 1.
Odho joined the Sindh Police on July 11, 1998, and began his career as Divisional Police Officer in Larkana. Over the years, he served as DPO in Ghotki, Badin, Dadu, and Jamshoro, building a reputation as a seasoned field officer.

He later held several key assignments, including Superintendent of Police in the Special Branch and postings in Thatta, Matiari, and Hyderabad. His senior command roles included DIG West Karachi, DIG Special Branch Sukkur, DIG Rapid Response Force, DIG Larkana, DIG Karachi Administration, DIG Mirpurkhas, and DIG Finance. He also served in Balochistan in 2019.
Odho has held multiple senior positions at the provincial level, including Additional Inspector General for Research and Development, Special Branch, and Investigation Sindh.
In 2022, he was appointed Karachi police chief but was transferred during the by-elections. He returned to Karachi in July 2024 as Additional IG, a position he held until his elevation to Sindh IG.
His appointment comes at a critical time for law enforcement in the province, with expectations of continuity in policing reforms, urban security management, and institutional accountability.
