India’s cricket team encountered a significant challenge on the second day of the fifth Test. Jasprit Bumrah, the team’s captain and leading pace bowler, exited the stadium for precautionary scans. This action followed a bout of discomfort he experienced after delivering just one over in the post-lunch session.
During his brief post-lunch spell, Bumrah displayed signs of what appeared to be a side strain. After consulting with Virat Kohli, who is currently leading the team in his stead, Bumrah left the field.
The official broadcasters captured his exit from the venue, and team security liaison officer Anshuman Upadhyay and the team doctor accompanied him. Visuals from Fox Sports showed him leaving in an SUV, highlighting the situation’s urgency.
Before this incident, Bumrah had performed exceptionally in the series, taking 32 wickets. His figures for the day stood at 2/33 from 10 overs, including the crucial wicket of Marnus Labuschagne in the morning session. His departure is a blow to the Indian team, which relies heavily on his bowling prowess.
The day also witnessed a heated moment involving Bumrah, known for his calm demeanour. At the non-striker’s end, he reacted sharply to comments made by an Australian teenager. The altercation culminated in the dismissal of Usman Khawaja, sparking a notable display of unity among the Indian players, including Kohli and KL Rahul.
Rohit Sharma, another key player for India, expressed his support for Bumrah and criticized the Australian players’ provocation. He emphasized the importance of focusing on the game rather than engaging in unnecessary antics, stating, “Our boys are silent only until provoked. If you are going to poke them, then they will retaliate. We are here to play cricket. Please avoid such nonsense. These antics do not reflect well on anyone.”
