A local court charged PPP MPA Jam Awais and seven of his servants in the Nazim Jokhio murder case on Saturday.
The MPA and six co-defendants were charged with kidnapping and torturing Nazim Jokhio to death in Memon Goth Police Station’s jurisdiction in November 2021. The remaining co-defendants were charged with concealing the crime’s evidence.
Additional District and Sessions Judge-I (Malir) Faraz Ahmed Chandio read out the charges to Awais, Mohammad Mairaj, Mohammad Saleem Salar, Ahmed Khan, Doda Khan, Mohammad Soomar, Haider Ali, and Meer Ali were charged. All of the defendants pleaded not guilty.
The judge ordered the prosecutor to produce witnesses against the defendant. Then, on December 15, he will hear a compromise application brought by the victim’s heirs. The accused have asked the court to dismiss the case because the dead activist’s family pardoned them after the “intervention of elders.”
Nazim Jokhio was discovered dead in a PPP MPA farmhouse in November. Afzal Jokhio, the victim’s brother, accused Awais, his MNA brother, and their guards of torturing him to death.
Nazim Jokhio was allegedly killed after posting a video showing outsiders hunting houbara bustards in Thatta.
