Jahangir Tareen, president of the newly formed Istektam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), departed for the United Kingdom amidst rumors of potential meetings with leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif.
Sources indicate that Tareen is expected to spend over a week in the UK, during which he will engage with Pakistanis living abroad and undergo a medical check-up.
Since the formation of the IPP, a flurry of individuals formerly associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and close confidantes of Imran Khan have rallied around the new party. These include:
- Fawad Chaudhry, former Information Minister
- Imran Ismail, former Sindh Governor
- Amir Kiani, former Health Minister
- Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir
- Mahmood Molvi, former Federal Minister
- Firdous Ashiq Awan, former SAPM
- Ali Zaidi, former Federal Minister
- Fayyazul Hasan Chauhan, former Provincial Minister
- Nauman Langrial, a former member of the Provincial Assembly
Tareen dismissed the idea that the IPP was established to supplant the PTI, stating that the party’s focus would be the country’s development.
He expressed regret that, despite their efforts while in the PTI, his new colleagues could not diligently work towards realizing the PTI manifesto, thus disappointing the public.
