A powerful explosion derailed three coaches of the Jaffar Express train near Shikarpur in Sindh, Pakistan, on July 28, 2025, injuring one person, according to The Associated Press of Pakistan. The incident, which disrupted rail services, highlights ongoing security challenges in the region.

The Jaffar Express, travelling from Peshawar to Quetta, was targeted by an explosion near Sultanpur, per Sukkur Railways Divisional Superintendent Jamshaid Alam. The blast caused three coaches to derail, leaving passengers in distress. Alam noted: “Passengers faced serious difficulties due to the derailment.” One injury was reported, with no fatalities.

Rescue teams from Sukkur arrived promptly to repair the track, but Alam estimated that restoration would take five hours. Rail operations remain suspended. The Sindh government ordered an immediate investigation into the explosion. This marks the third major attack on the Jaffar Express in 2025:

  • June 2025: A remote-controlled device derailed four bogies near Jacobabad, claimed by Baloch Republican Guards, per Express Tribune.
  • March 2025: Terrorists hijacked the train, holding 400 passengers hostage. Security forces killed 33 attackers, per ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry.
  • July 2025: Current explosion, investigation ongoing.

These incidents highlight vulnerabilities in Pakistan’s rail network amid regional security concerns. The derailment disrupts travel and commerce, emphasising the need for enhanced security. As investigations proceed, authorities aim to prevent similar incidents from recurring. The Jaffar Express derailment highlights ongoing threats to Pakistan’s rail system. Swift responses and thorough investigations are crucial for ensuring safety
