Jack Black returns as the beloved dumpling-loving bear in “Kung Fu Panda” after an eight-year break. Black found reprising Po’s role seamless, drawing inspiration from childhood passions.
“To prepare, I recalled my childhood obsessions,” Black shared with Reuters, citing “The Six Million Dollar Man” as his primary influence, akin to Po’s love for Kung Fu.
In “Kung Fu Panda 4,” Po begins a quest to find a new dragon warrior. Zhen, a fox thief voiced by Awkwafina, becomes Po’s choice to combat the ambitious Chameleon, portrayed by Viola Davis.
Awkwafina finds her character Zhen notably personal, expressing a close connection to the role. She and Black, real-life friends, infused their sessions with natural chemistry, encouraged by director Mike Mitchell.
Mitchell recognized their dynamic, allowing their authentic interaction to shape their characters. “Their playful banter enriched the recording sessions,” he observed.
“Kung Fu Panda 4” is set to premiere in U.S. theatres this Friday.
