More than 30 former Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) are on the verge of joining the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), signalling a significant breakthrough in Punjab’s political landscape.
Despite the party not being officially registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), it has successfully concluded negotiations with an influential group of former congressmen and leaders.
The IPP’s leadership has been actively involved in political activities, and the return of former Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Jahangir Khan Tareen has further energized political engagements throughout the country.
In the upcoming days, Tareen and prominent business figure Aleem Khan will hold crucial meetings in Lahore, Islamabad, and Karachi to solidify these alliances.
Sources indicate that efforts are underway to reconnect with influential political figures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Registration process with ECP
The party’s registration process with the Election Commission is expected to be finalized this week, ensuring compliance with all legal requirements and documentation.
Once Jahangir Khan Tareen and Abdul Aleem Khan approve, the party’s application will be submitted to the electoral body.
Confident in its stability, the party’s leadership is paving the way for an extensive membership campaign. Large-scale membership camps will be organized to facilitate this, with close supervision from the central leadership.
On June 12, 2023, Tareen appointed former food minister Aleem Khan as the IPP’s inaugural President, Aamir Mehmood Kiani as the first Secretary-General, and Aun Chaudhry as the Additional Secretary-General and Spokesperson.
Despite Tareen’s disqualification by the courts, which prevents him from holding any official position within the IPP, he is considered the party’s “patron-in-chief.”
Furthermore, as part of its preparations for the 2023 Pakistani general election, the IPP introduced divisional committees across Punjab on June 20, 2023.
