The Israeli pre-emptive attack on Iran has pushed the Middle East into renewed military confrontation. Israeli officials said the strike was launched to remove what they described as direct threats linked to Tehran’s nuclear and missile programmes.
Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed the action, stating that Israel acted to protect national security. Shortly afterwards, Iranian media reported multiple explosions in Tehran.
The escalation follows previous clashes between the two countries, including a 12-day air war in June. It also comes amid repeated warnings from Israel and the United States regarding Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile activities.
Israel Pre-Emptive Attack on Iran Triggers Regional Measures
Following the strike, Israel announced emergency restrictions. The military imposed a prohibition on educational activities, gatherings and most workplace operations, with essential sectors exempted.
Tel Aviv also closed its airspace to civilian flights, according to airport authorities.

Meanwhile, an Iranian official told Reuters that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been moved to a secure location outside Tehran.
The renewed confrontation has dimmed hopes for diplomacy. The United States and Iran had resumed negotiations in February to address Tehran’s nuclear programme and reduce the risk of broader conflict.

Israel has maintained that any agreement must dismantle Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and include limits on its missile programme. Iran has stated it is willing to discuss nuclear curbs in exchange for sanctions relief, but rejects linking the talks to missile restrictions.
Tehran has also warned that it would defend itself against any attack. Previously, Iran said it would retaliate against American bases in neighbouring countries if the United States struck Iranian territory.
In June, the US joined Israeli military action targeting Iranian nuclear sites. Iran responded by launching missiles toward the US Al Udeid air base in Qatar.
Western governments argue that Iran’s ballistic missile project threatens regional stability. Tehran continues to deny pursuing nuclear weapons.
