A fire broke out on stalls at a Sunday Bazaar in the federal capital’s Peshawar Mor in H-9 Sector.
The scope of the fire was so tremendous that it soon overtook shops leaving over 150 burnt. No causalities have been recorded following the incident.
Rescue sources claimed that the inferno is reported to have hit the bazaar’s gate number seven at Srinagar Avenue sector, engulfing and damaging several shops which sell carpets and second-hand clothing for the winter season — many of which have been reportedly burnt to ashes.
The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) and the city’s fire brigade department are involved in extinguishing the fire. At the same time, the capital police and district administration were also present at the scene of the event, including the federal capital’s deputy commissioner.
At least 10 fire engines are working to douse the fire. Rana Sanaullah has noted the occurrence. He has asked the city’s deputy commissioner to monitor the situation and ensure all resources are available to put out the fire.
The minister has demanded the incident report from the district administration of Islamabad.
This was not the first time that this market had caught fire. A similar tragedy has occurred four times, leaving shops damaged and shopkeepers incurring losses of millions of rupees as the business is substantially invested.
All avenues going toward the market have been barred by the police.
The deputy commissioner said: “The cause of the fire has not yet been identified, and no casualty has been reported. Islamabad and Rawalpindi’s rescue teams are active in controlling the fire.”
A representative of the Pakistan Navy claimed that civil administration is also aiding in dousing the wildfire. At the same time, the navy’s team and two of its fire brigades are also engaged in putting it out.
