Islamabad authorities will roll out the Islamabad M-Tag for motorcycles from February 20, 2026, according to the Director General of Excise.
The move marks the second phase of the city’s e-tag programme. Officials have already installed M-Tags on thousands of vehicles. Now, the facility will extend to motorcycle owners across the capital.
Motorcyclists can begin applying for e-tags from 10:00 am on February 20. Authorities have set up multiple designated centres to manage the process smoothly.
Islamabad M-Tag for motorcycles: What owners need to know
Motorcycle owners must bring their vehicle registration documents along with a valid national identity card when applying. Officials have made these documents mandatory to complete the process.
So far, 223,566 vehicles have received e-tags in Islamabad. Moreover, authorities continue installations at 13 designated points across the city.
The expansion comes as regulators tighten enforcement on motorways. Earlier, the National Highways Authority (NHA) imposed a 50 per cent additional toll tax on non-M-Tag and low-balance vehicles. The revised toll rates took effect on June 15, 2025.

According to the NHA notification, the extra charge applies across major motorways. These include M-1 (Islamabad–Peshawar), M-2 (Lahore–Islamabad), M-3 (Pindi Bhattian–Multan), M-4 (Faisalabad–Multan), M-5 (Multan–Sukkur), M-9 (Karachi–Hyderabad), M-14 (D.I. Khan–Hakla) and E-35 (Hassanabdal–Mansehra Expressway).
For example, the toll for cars on the Islamabad–Lahore motorway stands at Rs 1,800 under the revised rates. Similarly, Lahore–Abdul Hakim (M-3) costs Rs 1,200, while Pindi Bhattian–Multan (M-4) costs Rs 1,600.
Officials say the M-Tag system helps reduce congestion and improve toll collection efficiency. Therefore, motorcycle owners are encouraged to complete registration early to avoid inconvenience.
