The district administration of Islamabad has extended the deadline for installing mandatory M-Tags on vehicles by 15 days, offering temporary relief to motorists.
According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, citizens can now install M-Tags on their vehicles until January 15. The extension follows directives from Mohsin Naqvi, the interior minister.
The earlier deadline was set for January 1, 2026. Authorities had planned to block the entry of vehicles without M-Tags into the federal capital starting Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon confirmed that enforcement will begin once the extended deadline expires. He warned that authorities will take action against vehicles entering the city without the required electronic tag.

To facilitate compliance, the administration has established 16 designated points across Islamabad for M-Tag issuance. Since November 14, officials have issued nearly 100,000 M-Tags, reflecting growing public participation.

Authorities have installed electronic tag readers at major entry points and check posts across the city. These systems will identify vehicles without M-Tags. Officials said the readers will become fully operational from January 1, ensuring seamless digital enforcement.
The administration has urged vehicle owners to complete the process before the revised deadline to avoid penalties and ensure uninterrupted access to the capital.
