The Ministry of Education has inaugurated the Pink Bus Service in Islamabad, specifically for female students and teachers.
As directed by Prime Minister Shehbaz, these buses will be available at major bus stops throughout the capital city starting August 7.
The service aims to foster girls’ education and support women by providing a reliable connection between rural and urban areas, ensuring safe and convenient travel. The ministry’s statement highlighted the initiative’s role in empowering women through improved access to educational and professional environments.
The Ministry of Education will conduct regular monitoring and evaluations to guarantee the success of this service. This free transportation initiative addresses the inadequacies that disproportionately affect women and girls.
Further detailing the plan, the Secretary of Education revealed that out of 385 buses, 30 per cent are currently non-operational due to issues like budget constraints, lack of drivers, and delayed maintenance. The ministry plans to refurbish these buses and have them operational by June 15 to provide free transportation services to female teachers and students.
