The Islamabad High Court (IHC) is set to deliver its judgement today on a series of petitions submitted by former Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan.
PTI Chairman’s petitions relate to the Toshakhana criminal case. After hearing the petitions yesterday, the IHC Chief Justice, Aamer Farooq, reserved the judgement.
Imran Khan’s petitions contest the viability of the Toshakhana criminal case and request its relocation to a different court. They also include a plea for the right to defence in the trial court and a stay order. The Toshakhana reference, resulting in the disqualification of the former Prime Minister under Article 63(1)(p) of the Constitution for “false statements and incorrect declaration,” was issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) last year on October 21.
Imran Khan’s legal representatives, Khawaja Haris and Gohar Khan, and the ECP’s attorney, Amjad Pervez, attended the court session. The IHC Chief Justice has reserved the decision on eight petitions, the verdict for which is expected today.
