The Islamabad High Court has instructed Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the Inspector General of Islamabad Police (IGP), to dismiss unfounded cases against leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to address concerns of harassment.
At a hearing focused on the harassment of PTI members Shoaib Shaheen, Ali Bukhari, and Amir Mughal, IGP Islamabad appeared in court. Chief Justice Amir Farooq stressed the importance of thoroughly addressing these issues, noting, “I had previously ordered that these issues be looked into more thoroughly; this request pertains to police conduct regarding harassment.”
The IGP reported that he had received an order on the 24th and had since collected all necessary files to review the cases. Umair Baloch, the petitioner’s lawyer, highlighted that false FIRs had been filed against them.
Chief Justice Farooq urged, “IG, please look at this; it doesn’t look good. Dismiss the fake cases.” The IG committed to convening a meeting with the petitioners, and Chief Justice Farooq directed that their lawyer, Umair Baloch, be present at the meeting.
The court then adjourned the hearing for two weeks, underscoring the persistent issues regarding the police’s treatment of PTI members.
