On August 10, 2025, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) denied media reports regarding an eight-day closure of Islamabad International Airport, stating that these claims were false. Instead, the PAA announced temporary flight suspensions to facilitate rehearsals by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) fighter jets for the Independence Day flypast. These measures are designed to prioritise air traffic safety and ensure smooth coordination during the national event.
According to a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), civilian flights at Islamabad International Airport will be paused for two-hour intervals on specific days:
- August 6–9 and 11–14: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
- August 11–13: 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM
During these windows, PAF jets will utilise the capital’s airspace, suspending civilian landings and takeoffs. The PAA emphasised that flights will operate normally outside these slots and urged airlines and pilots to exercise caution during rehearsals.
The PAA has urged travellers to verify flight schedules with airlines to prevent disruptions. This proactive measure aims to reduce inconvenience and ensure that passengers are prepared for potential delays during the rehearsal periods leading up to August 14, 2025.
The brief suspensions reflect Pakistan’s commitment to a safe and celebratory Independence Day, balancing national pride with operational efficiency. The PAA’s swift clarification counters misinformation, maintaining public trust in aviation management. The flypast rehearsals underscore the PAF’s role in national festivities.
