On June 23, 2025, Iran launched a missile attack on the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, retaliating for U.S. strikes on its nuclear sites.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched short- and medium-range ballistic missiles targeting Al Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East. This action was described as a “devastating” response to U.S. airstrikes on nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on June 21, according to Reuters.
Qatar’s air defences successfully intercepted the missiles, resulting in no reported casualties. Iran coordinated with Qatar to minimise any potential harm. The U.S. confirmed no damages or injuries, and President Donald Trump monitored the situation from the Situation Room.

Qatar condemned the attack as a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty, stating that it reserves the right to respond. Bahrain and the UAE closed their airspace, while U.S. military bases in Iraq (Ain al-Asad) and Syria (Qasrak) were on high alert. Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, who met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow, rejected diplomatic efforts and accused the U.S. of undermining negotiations. As a result, oil prices dropped by 4%, indicating market concerns about Iran’s threat to block the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. conducted strikes using B-2 bombers and bunker-busters following Israel’s campaign that began on June 13, which resulted in 865 deaths in Iran. Trump’s assertion of “obliterating” Iran’s nuclear program has been contested, with damage assessments still in progress. The IAEA reported that there were no radiation leaks.
