Iran’s state television reported that the late President Ebrahim Raisi’s fatal helicopter crash was primarily due to severe weather conditions, including dense fog, according to the final investigation report.
Ebrahim Raisi, a hardliner seen as a likely successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, perished in the crash this past May. The incident occurred in a mountainous area near the Azerbaijan border.
The definitive report states, “Complicated weather conditions in the region were the main cause of the helicopter crash.” This conclusion came from a specialized committee within Iran’s military tasked with the investigation.
The committee’s report specified that dense fog caused the helicopter, carrying Raisi and others, to collide with a mountain.
Earlier, a preliminary inquiry by Iran’s military in May had found no indications of foul play or an assault.
