Ira Khan clarified a misunderstanding about the dress code at a high-profile event, which had led to her receiving criticism for her outfit in a photo with Nick Jonas.
Ira Khan attributed the mishap to her father, Aamir Khan, who lacked details when communicating event invitations. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Ira revealed, “I had no idea that Nick Jonas was going to be there. My father usually just calls and says, ‘Hey, we have to go for this. Come.’ He doesn’t mention the dress code.”
She continued, “He doesn’t tell you any of these details, so I show up in the best dress I can take. Then I get trolled on Instagram for not dressing appropriately. I had no idea we were going to such a fancy event. I didn’t even know what the event was about until I arrived and realized, ‘Oh my God!'”
The incident occurred last year at an event attended by international celebrities. Adding to her recount, Ira shared an anecdote about her interaction with Nick Jonas, “I went up to him and said, ‘Hey, I don’t usually do this. I don’t go up to people and ask for photos because I know how irritating it is, but literally, my best friend was supposed to marry you, so I have to take this photo for the five-year-old us.'”
Following the event, when Ira posted pictures with Nick Jonas and her then-fiancé, Nupur Shikhare, she faced criticism online for her fashion choices. She captioned the photos, “My teenage fantasies, my young-adult fantasies and then my real life fantasy @nupur_popeye You’re it. I know you know but just wanted to make sure.”
Ira Khan, who shares a close bond with her parents, Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta, married fitness coach Nupur Shikhare in January 2024. Aamir Khan and his second wife, director Kiran Rao, who separated in 2021, were also present at the wedding, continuing to co-parent their son, Azad.
