In the IPL 2025 Auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s decision to purchase Ishan Kishan for Rs 11.25 Crore surprised former Australian cricket star Tom Moody.
Despite Kishan’s recent challenges, including losing his spot on the Indian team and a BCCI central contract, SRH invested heavily in securing his services. Moody criticized the move as “flawed,” pointing out that SRH already had a solid opening pair in Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma.
During an ESPNcricinfo interview, Moody expressed his astonishment. “It’s flawed, mate. I didn’t see that coming at all. We tried to get him four years ago and failed. We pushed Mumbai Indians up to 15.5 crore back then, beyond their budget. But here we are, Sunrisers are taking a few shots at the top of the order again,” he remarked.

Daniel Vettori, the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad, shared his enthusiasm for acquiring Kishan at the start of the IPL mega auction but acknowledged the setback of losing T Natarajan to Delhi Capitals.
Kishan, previously a key player for Mumbai Indians, was bought by SRH for Rs 11.25 crore. After a turbulent year, the left-handed batter is making a comeback by playing in the Ranji Trophy.

On the first day of the auction, SRH added eight players to their squad, including pacers Mohammed Shami (Rs 10 crore) and Harshal Patel (Rs 8 crore). Despite these acquisitions, the loss of left-arm pacer Natarajan, who Delhi Capitals bought for Rs 10.75 crore, was deeply felt. Vettori commented on the challenge, “Nothing can offset Nattu’s loss. Every team faces these situations, whether you seize early opportunities or wait for later ones. “
Ahead of the auction, SRH retained five players: captain Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Nitish Reddy.
