The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) commenced with a star-studded opening ceremony in Kolkata, seamlessly blending the worlds of Bollywood and cricket.
Shah Rukh Khan, the charming host, transformed the event into an unforgettable night for fans.
The highlight of the evening was when Shah Rukh Khan, in his signature style, referred to Virat Kohli as the “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time). SRK praised Kohli’s loyalty to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), calling him the “King of 22 yards and a billion hearts.” The crowd cheered as SRK invited Kohli onto the stage, where the two danced to SRK’s blockbuster song “Jhoome Jo Pathaan.”
Before Kohli’s appearance, SRK set the stage on fire with KKR’s Rinku Singh. The two danced to SRK’s popular track ‘Lutt Putt Gaya’ from the film Dunki, leaving Kohli and the audience in splits. SRK’s charm was displayed as he joked, “If you host a party at Pathan’s house, Pathan himself will come to greet you and bring fireworks as well!”
The ceremony also featured electrifying performances by Shreya Ghoshal, Karan Aujla, and Disha Patani, adding more star power to the night. The fusion of Bollywood glamour and cricketing excitement perfectly started the IPL season.
After the spectacular ceremony, the players of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made their way into the stadium to start the tournament’s opening match.
