In an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar yesterday, the proposal for a barter deal for export of commodities against Iranian electricity dues was discussed.
Following the visit to Tehran by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in May this year, the ministry of finance was working on a proposal to strike the barter deal.
This was the second meeting on the issue in the current month to facilitate Pak-Iran trade within the ambit of UN sanctions.
In 2012, a barter deal was also tried on export of wheat against Iranian electricity dues but a deadlock over the deal prevailed owing to unwillingness of the Iranian bureaucracy to pursue the deal.
