Cricketer Muhammad Hafeez said earlier today that he would have recovered from his ankle injury in a week, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management sent him back and ruled him out of the World Cup.
“This is the management’s decision; it’s for the best,” Hafeez told reporters.
“I have always tried to play a role in Pakistan’s success; this is an unfortunate scenario,” Hafeez added.
Further, Hafeez said that it would be best that he recovers first and clears his bowling action.“I am sad to miss the World Cup,” Hafeez said.
Hafeez was ruled out of the World Cup after suffering an ankle injury during the second one-day international against New Zealand in Napier last week and was advised to take three weeks’ rest.
Paceman Umar Gul was not selected because of a knee injury in January, while another fast bowler Junaid Khan had to be withdrawn from the 15-man squad after he failed to recover from a leg injury.
Wily spinner Saeed Ajmal was also excluded from the squad after his bowling action was deemed illegal last September, however, the International Cricket Council recently cleared him after retesting.
